Tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. Following ejection and deposition, the ash is lithified into a solid rock. Rock that contains greater than 75% ash is considered tuff, while rock containing 25% to 75% ash is described as tuffaceous (for example, tuffaceous sandstone). Tuff composed of sandy volcanic material can be referred to as volcanic sandstone.

Tuff is a relatively soft rock, so it has been used for construction since ancient times. Because it is common in Italy, the Romans used it often for construction. The Rapa Nui people used it to make most of the moai statues on Easter Island.

Tuff can be classified as either igneous or sedimentary rock. It is usually studied in the context of igneous petrology, although it is sometimes described using sedimentological terms.

Tuff is often erroneously called tufa in guidebooks and in television programs but tufa is a form of travertine.

I’ve tried it to fertilize and seed about an acre field and this spreader did a pretty good job. Few things can be improved or changed. If the hopper is full with fertilizer, it’s motor is not strong enough to turn the spreader plate. I had to manually turn the plate and once it moved it worked well. Another issue is that the controls are mounted on the spreader. You can use them from a small 4wheeler but from a side by side or truck you don’t have immediate control. Controls should be separate and wiring/cable long enough to use from a truck or side by side. I disconnected it and it barely reached it to use while in my side by side. Overall, this is a useful device and I like it better than my other spreaders that worked by movement of wheels.

Purchased to spread 800 lbs of pellet lime and 200 lbs of lawn fertilizer. Does a good job spreading just not so good feeding. Needs to have clip that breaks up lumps closer to bottom of hopper and long enough to sweep entire opening. Also a little weak on starting as I would have to manually spin spreader plate to start. That said if breaker clip was any larger motor probably would not handle it.

Goes together fairly easy. Works as anticipated. I did notice that if you leave the switch on for the rotary motor and have the dispenser gate closed with product in the dispenser the motor will bog down which could lead to overheating and failure. As long as you turn the switch off while repositioning your vehicle you should not have a problem.
