The breasts are two prominences located on the upper ventral region of the torso among humans and other primates. Both sexes develop breasts from the same embryological tissues. The relative size and development of the breasts is a major secondary sex distinction between females and males. There is also considerable variation in size between individuals. Female humans are the only mammals which permanently develop breasts at puberty; all other mammals develop their mammary tissue during the latter period of pregnancy; at puberty, estrogens, in conjunction with growth hormone, cause permanent breast growth.
In females, the breast serves as the mammary gland, which produces and secretes milk to feed infants. Subcutaneous fat covers and envelops a network of ducts that converge on the nipple, and these tissues give the breast its distinct size and globular shape. At the ends of the ducts are lobules, or clusters of alveoli, where milk is produced and stored in response to hormonal signals. During pregnancy, the breast responds to a complex interaction of hormones, including estrogens, progesterone, and prolactin, that mediate the completion of its development, namely lobuloalveolar maturation, in preparation of lactation and breastfeeding.
Along with their major function in providing nutrition for infants, several cultures ascribe social and sexual characteristics to female breasts, and may regard bare breasts in public as immodest or indecent. Breasts have been featured in ancient and modern sculpture, art, and photography. Breasts can represent fertility, femininity, or abundance. They can figure prominently in the perception of a woman's body and sexual attractiveness. Breasts, especially the nipples, can be an erogenous zone.
A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action, typically converted from electrical energy into hydraulic or pneumatic energy.
Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applications such as pumping water from wells, aquarium filtering, pond filtering and aeration, in the car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection, in the energy industry for pumping oil and natural gas or for operating cooling towers and other components of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. In the medical industry, pumps are used for biochemical processes in developing and manufacturing medicine, and as artificial replacements for body parts, in particular the artificial heart and penile prosthesis.
When a pump contains two or more pump mechanisms with fluid being directed to flow through them in series, it is called a multi-stage pump. Terms such as two-stage or double-stage may be used to specifically describe the number of stages. A pump that does not fit this description is simply a single-stage pump in contrast.
In biology, many different types of chemical and biomechanical pumps have evolved; biomimicry is sometimes used in developing new types of mechanical pumps.

I used Elvie with my first baby and it allowed me to continue my pumping journey when I was too busy at work to sit down for 30 minute sessions (I’m a nurse practitioner). The pump is discreet, near silent, and cordless. I like the ability to cap the collection containers for transport, so you can skip decanting into bags if you’re really in a time crunch. It would be nice to be able to see the milk in the containers while pumping; the containers are on the bottom of the pump and thus covered by my bra. However, you can check an approximate volume on the app. Overall, Elvie is amazing and I was so sad when I lost my pumps during the moving process! I loved my Elvies.

The Elvie does exactly what it says it will do; you get portability and hands free pumping! It is slightly heavier than expected but the average bra can handle it. The suction is great and give me as much as my regular pump. Only issue I am having is connecting it to the app to keep track but we use a different app for tracking so it’s not a huge deal.

By far the best breast pump I have come across. It’s just so easy to use, portable and you save so much time by being able to use your hands and be mobile whislt using it. It has definitely changed my breastfeeding routine and experience. Fully recommended.

The elvie pump has meant that I can pump at 2am easily and efficiently without having to have awkward pumps around me- I can pump on one side while baby feeds on the other. Easy to transport when I am out and about and want to pump in the car ( a very convenient and discreet way to pump). I quickly learnt you have to make sure all pieces are together correctly or suction drops- however it is not hard to ensure they are. Many reviews about leaking made me hesitate to buy it however I have never experienced this. I had an early mishap with sterilising and denatured a plastic component, there was no difficulty in Elvie sending a new part out immediately- great service.

I received this for a baby shower gift and I am so thankful to have it in my life. As a busy nurse there is no way I could find the time to pump during work, but with Elvie I’m at almost 7 months of breastfeeding and pumping! It has saved my supply and I’m so thankful for it every time I use it. It’s quiet, works great, and I love it.

I can now easier be on-the-go around the house with my big kids while pumping. Elvie Works so much better for me (and not painful) than the Willow. Elvie doesn’t empty my breasts as quickly or completely as my Spectra, but I still LOVE it. I am not an exclusive pumper, I use the pumps to boost supply or if baby misses a feed or needs milk in a bottle instead. And Elvie’s customer support is fantastic!!
