Why We Love It

For over 80 years, we’ve been making our authentic Scotch Plaid flannel shirts the way we always have: better than everyone else’s. Our exclusive flannel fabric is meticulously woven with longer-staple cotton, which means the individual cotton fibers are about one-quarter inch longer than short-staple fibers, making a huge difference in fabric strength and quality. Then, it’s meticulously brushed eight times on each side and given a “touch test” by a master weaver to declare it soft enough.
Fabric & Care

  • Made of high-quality Portuguese cotton flannel, an L.L.Bean exclusive.
  • Authentic tartans are yarn-dyed for lasting color.
  • Each color is carefully matched to the historical tartans in the Scottish registry.
  • Machine wash and dry.
Additional Features

  • Button-down collar.
  • Single patch pocket.
  • Shirttail hem.

A bean is the seed of several plants in the family Fabaceae (legumes) which are used as vegetables for human consumption or animal food. The seeds are often preserved through drying, but fresh beans are also sold. Most beans are traditionally soaked and boiled, but they can be cooked in many different ways, including frying and baking, and are used in many traditional dishes throughout the world. The unripe seedpods of some varieties are also eaten whole as green beans, which can be eaten raw, as well as edamame (immature soybean), but fully ripened beans contain toxins like phytohemagglutinin and require cooking.

Flannel is a soft woven fabric, of varying fineness. Flannel was originally made from carded wool or worsted yarn, but is now often made from either wool, cotton, or synthetic fiber. Flannel is commonly used to make tartan clothing, blankets, bed sheets, sleepwear, and several other uses.

Flannel may be brushed to create extra softness or remain unbrushed. Brushing is a mechanical process wherein a fine metal brush rubs the fabric to raise fine fibres from the loosely spun yarns to form a nap on one or both sides. If the flannel is not napped, it gains its softness through the loosely spun yarn in its woven form.

The term "flannel shirt" is often mistakenly used to refer to any shirt with a plaid or tartan pattern. However, 'flannel' refers simply to the fabric; not all flannel shirts are plaid and not all plaid shirts are flannel.

L, or l, is the twelfth letter of the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is el (pronounced EL), plural els.

S, or for lowercase, s, is the nineteenth letter of the Latin alphabet, used in the English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and other latin alphabets worldwide. Its name in English is ess (pronounced ), plural esses.

Scotch most commonly refers to:

  • Scotch (adjective), a largely obsolescent adjective meaning "of or from Scotland"
    • Scotch, old-fashioned name for the indigenous languages of the Scottish people:
      • Scots language ("Broad Scotch")
      • Scottish Gaelic ("Scotch Gaelic")
  • Scotch whisky, a whisky made in Scotland, which outside Scotland is commonly abbreviated as "Scotch"

Scotch may also refer to:

A shirt is a cloth garment for the upper body (from the neck to the waist).

Originally an undergarment worn exclusively by men, it has become, in American English, a catch-all term for a broad variety of upper-body garments and undergarments. In British English, a shirt is more specifically a garment with a collar, sleeves with cuffs, and a full vertical opening with buttons or snaps (North Americans would call that a "dress shirt", a specific type of collared shirt). A shirt can also be worn with a necktie under the shirt collar.

I have looking for Flannels that have extra room because of the shrinkage factor. These shirts fit the bill (not my name) perfectly.
